Program

Trekking Made unites in a cross-border system the mountain pastures of Friuli Venezia Giulia and Carinthia (A) with hiking-cycling routes in nature, with a view to preserving the cultural and natural heritage, for the benefit of tourists discovering the true spirit of the mountains, their traditions, scents and flavours.

MADE Weekend 2 nights/3 days Montasio Ring and Gilberti Refuge

Day 1

Montasio ring route of 12.9 km with 44 m of altitude difference: Departure from the car park near the old track behind the last apartment buildings in Sella Nevea. Climb up the track for a short distance, keeping to the right, until you join the forest track that climbs up from the car park; continue along the track and after five hairpin bends you will reach casera Cregnedul di sopra, where the uphill part of this excursion practically ends. Continue along the forest track (CAI path no. 624) and at the end of the wood you reach casera Larice. The road continues beyond the casera on a slope and you reach the casere Parte di Mezzo. Continuing northwards, you reach the Di Brazzà hut. From the refuge you return to Sella Nevea, heading for the summer car park and continuing along the open summer road that descends to Sella Nevea. When you reach the last hairpin bend at an altitude of 1206 metres, take the mule track that branches off to the left and leads to the starting point.
Overnight stay at the Divisione Julia hut or at Malga Montasio on the plateau.

Day 2

Ascent to Gilberti on foot 11 km with a difference in altitude of 867 m (with the possibility of using the cable car from July to September):
From the Divisione Julia Refuge (elevation 1162 m) the path descends for a short stretch along the carriageway towards Chiusaforte until it reaches a large bend, where a cart-track branches off leading to the square below where the starting point of the new Canin cableway is located. To the right of this, it skirts the square and climbs into a mixed forest.
It immediately leaves path no. 645a (Sentiero Sereno) to the right, which leads towards Casera Goriuda di Sopra. Not much further on, a second path, the 659 (Troi dai Sacs), branches off to the right, taking us towards Casera Goriuda di Sopra.
Now ours, it takes on height with hairpin bends and steps, overcoming several but modest rocky jumps, always in the forest which first turns into a larch grove and then into a mugo thicket.
It then passes below the walls of the Bila Pec next to the Grotta della Gocce (old Di Brazzà shelter).
Another path, 632a (part of the "Botanical Path"), branches off to the right at an altitude of 1801m.
Now proceeding along gravel, we climb over the final "tooth" and enter a beautiful karstic hollow from which we soon reach the Gilberti-Soravito Refuge (altitude 1850 m).
Overnight stay at the Gilberti hut.
