Hermagor - Malenthein ruins

A short walk through the forest and across a meadow and we are already standing in front of the huge lime tree, whose canopy of leaves leans protectively over St Anne's Chapel. Only the remains of the walls of the once mighty Malenthein Castle remain, but the original extent of the castle can still be surmised.

Wskazówki

From car park no. 2 in Hermagor on the main road, we walk into Lindengasse, then cross the Weißensee main road next to the new primary school at the wayside shrine and climb uphill approx. 15 m east of the chapel next to the road on an unmarked, initially steep, narrow path. Then you also cross a forest road. We soon reach a meadow, which we cross in a southerly direction. In the forest on the grassy forest path, first keeping left, then after approx. 50 metres uphill to the right and we are in front of the private Anna Chapel, next to which there is a mighty lime tree. From there, head W in a few minutes to the Malenthein ruins, whose ancient walls take our imagination back to the Middle Ages. Entering the walls is dangerous. You can descend past the Annenkapelle chapel to Kühweg in a southerly direction and then return to the starting point after the main road or return along the ascent path.
