Oisternig (2052 m)

The Oisternig is the easternmost 2000 metre peak in the Carnic Alps. It is surrounded by rustic Alpine villages and the ascent can be made from Vorderberg, Feistritz or from the Italian Uggowitz-Graben. The view from the summit shows the nearby Julian Alps and the mighty Mangart rises up in the centre.
Oprema
Normal hiking equipment with good hiking boots.

Upute

From the Starhand inn on the Dolinza Alm, we take trail 403 eastwards and hike through a mountain forest to the Feistritzer Alm. The Feistritzer Alm is a typical alpine hut village, only the so-called Hotel Oisternig is a foreign body - a sin of the past. Trail 481 takes you up the southern slope of the summit, past the remains of positions from the First World War. The view is remarkable, the Gailtal valley lies at the hiker's feet. The view of the Julian Alps and Carinthia with its lakes is beautiful.

The way back is the same as the ascent, or you can circle the Oisternig from the Feistritzer Alm via paths 481, 478 and 477 via the Werbutzalm in an anti-clockwise direction back to the Dolinza Alm - an additional 2 hours. (=> This option is shown on the map).
