Description

Explore the Lesachtal-Gailtal-Gitschtal-Weissensee region – the world's first Slow Food Travel destination - by bike! Cycle effortlessly from producer to producer along well-developed cycle paths in picturesque natural surroundings. Make time for sampling the products on site, chat with the producers and learn about their passion for food production. Don't forget to bring a large rucksack or side bag in case you want to do some shopping. These tours are not just about the distance travelled. Most of all, they are about the combination of being active in beautiful natural surroundings and discovering delicious treasures. Enjoy a unique experience of tastes and flavours, produced according to the Slow Food motto "good, clean, fair" by people with a great appreciation for our planet.

Route characteristic

The routes are extremely family-friendly and promise pleasant cycling. The cycle paths are well developed and mostly flat, which makes them ideal for bike tours with children. This route is particularly suitable for e-bikes and trekking bikes.

Thursday, 13/06

• Individual arrival at Hansbauerhof, Rattendorf
• Tip: Dinner at the Bärenwirt inn

Friday, 14/06

• Bike tour along the Gailtal Cycle Route to Nötsch im Gailtal (approx. 40 km)
• Visit to the Nötscher Kreis Museum (2pm - 6pm) and the Wiegele bakery in the Wiegele Haus (food and drink not included)
• Return journey by train to Hermagor
• 4pm - Slow Food experience "The taste of Castellovino, root and hay bacon" at Lerchenhof Castle - duration approx. 2 hours
• Followed by a bike tour back to Hansbauerhof (approx. 13 km)

Samstag, 15/06

• 9.25am: Ride on the bike bus from Hermagor to Kötschach-Mauthen
• Visit to the Matitz bakery with sampling, e.g. country maize Reindling cake
• Tip: Visit to Herwig Ertl's Delicatessen – fine  food shop
• Bike tour along the Gailtal Cycle Route to Rattendorf (approx. 23 km)
• Lunch en route at Gasthaus Grünwald in St. Daniel, and a stop at the Neuwirth family for a farmhouse ice cream in Gundersheim

Sunday, 16/06

• Departure after breakfast
