Findenigkofel (Monte Lodin) 2015 m, from the Zollnersee hut

The area around the Zollnerseehütte is a very beautiful hilly alpine pasture area, bordered to the north by the sometimes quite steep slopes into the Geiltal valley, and to the south by the Carnic mountain range with the Kleine and Hoher Trieb and the Findenigkofel. The area was a highly contested border region with Italy during the First World War, many of the trenches are still clearly visible.

Equipment

Normal hiking equipment, sturdy shoes are recommended.

Directions
From Hermagor continue on the B111 towards Kötschach Mauthen until Dellach, turn left here towards Würmlach. Shortly after the large oil tanks, turn left to the Zollnerseehütte (signpost).

Directions

From the car park, first take the road to the Zollnerseehütte hut, then follow the marked path (425). The trail leads gently up and down past the Zollnersee lake until you reach a junction. Turn right and the path now climbs a little steeper up to the Nölblingpass. A short section is still flat and then begins the part where almost all the metres in altitude are gained. Past many trenches from the First World War, some of which have been carved out of the rocks, the trail climbs up the west ridge to the summit with its special summit cross.

The trail now continues eastwards along the summit ridge and then descends moderately steeply to Lodintörl. Here you meet path 403, a section of the Carnic High Trail. Continue along this path below the north face of the Findenigkofel, alternating ups and downs, until you reach the fork in the path to the Findenigkogel. From here, continue as on the ascent, past the Zollnersee lake to the Zollnerseehütte hut.
