Hermagor (600 m) - Guggenberg (1120 m)

The Guggenberg can be described as Hermagor's local mountain. In the past, skiers made their turns here, but now it is quite overgrown. Nevertheless, the Hauser and Waldemar guesthouses in particular offer wonderful views down to Hermagor and Lake Pressegger See, but from higher up, the views are mainly of the Gailtal valley. The paths lead mainly through forest and are easy to follow.
Equipment
Normal hiking equipment.
Directions
From the A2 south motorway, take the Hermagor exit and continue on the B111 to Hermagor. In Hermagor, head south-west on the B111 towards Höhenweg, pass the roundabout and 800 m later turn right onto 10.-Oktober-Straße/Weißensee Str./B87. Continue on Weißensee Str./B87 until you reach the post distribution centre.

Directions

South of the Hermagor post office distribution centre, head west on Guggenbergstraße, climbing slightly to the first bend. There, a marked path branches off into the forest. The path leads over a small stream through high forest to a forest road, which is used as a toboggan run in winter. Immediately afterwards, the path with trail no. 4 branches off to the left and leads relatively steeply to the road. Another option is the accompanying gravel path, which is used as a toboggan run in winter and reaches the road in the area of the meadow. Now follow the path uphill towards Guggenberg at the edge of the forest and then walk past a farm until you reach the Guggenberg church, return the same way (approx. 2.5 hours there and back).

(=> this option is shown graphically on the map)

Option 2:
After reaching the tarmac road, continue to the right, past the Hauserhof (refreshment stop) and enjoy the wonderful view of the valley until you reach the Waldemar inn with its well-known products. From there, choose the descent west of the inn, along the edge of the forest and a stream into the forest and descend to Möschach, path no. 8, where you will find the Lerchenhof inn from the Biedermeier period. Follow Weißensee Straße along the pavement back to Hermagor and the starting point. Total walking time for this variant approx. 2 hours.
