EXACT ROUTE DESCRIPTION:

1. from the valley villages of Pesarïs (great clock museum), Osais and Pieria we reach Prato Carnico with its leaning tower - here we turn acutely to the NW towards the village centre and follow path no. 226. At a fork in the path after approx. 600 m, we take our first break, 3.8 km, 785 m.

ALTERNATIVE 1: Take the bus (www.saf.ud.it) at 6:44 or 7:48 to Prato Carnico or even further to Rigolato (i.e. without crossing the M. Talm).

2. hiking steadily upwards, we meet a HWW that leads us over the Sora Prat in a NW direction to the Rif. Mt. Talm (not serviced, 2nd break, 5.4 km, 1,130 m).

3. take path no. 226 on tarmac in an uphill curve to the right - after approx. 400 m turn half right at a fork and after approx. 200 m go straight ahead at a crossroads. Soon afterwards the gravel road begins and after approx. 500 metres we turn right at an acute-angled junction, heading SE.

4. we leave the main farm track (HWW) at a hairpin bend after approx. 700 m and now continue unwooded with path no. 226 on a natural path south of Mt. Talm in an easterly direction. After approx. 1.1 km we hike in an S-curve up to the 1st summit of the 24th stage and take the 3rd break, 8.6 km, 1728 m.

5. hike along path no. 226 in an easterly (later northerly) direction down into Val Degano - after approx. 2 km on the well-marked nature trail we meet a hiking trail with path no. 225 and continue straight ahead (ignoring 3 paths to the right and 3 paths to the left).

6. after approx. 100 m, turn left at a fork to the NW and cross a stream after approx. 700 m, where the natural path turns into a gravel path. After approx. 200 m, turn half-left at a fork and then straight ahead heading N to one of the main villages in the Degano Valley, Rigolato. After crossing the SR 355, turn right and take the 4th break on the south side of Piazza Durigon , 12.1 km, 755 m.

7. we leave Rigolato via Via Borgo Vecchio heading NW and walk briefly along the SR 355, then turn half right into Via Sega. We rejoin the SR 355, which we leave on the right again after about 200 metres at the cemetery.

8. take path no. 151 down to the village of Sglinghin and turn right, east to the bridge that crosses the Torrente Degano. Immediately after the bridge, we respect the barrier of the WW to the left, N - we walk to the right, SE and in a left turn on a natural path steadily upwards - after approx. 600 m we take the 5th break at the crossroads , 13.8 km, 905 m.

9. path no. 151 leads us further upwards on a natural path - we reach the Frazione Givigliana just before the church of the mountain village of Givigliana - in the village centre at the water intake we take the 6th break, 14.3 km, 1,105 m.

10. from the church square, continue upwards on path no. 151 in a left-hand bend - after approx. 200 m, at the fork, turn half-left heading NW. We now go straight ahead and leave the gravel path after approx. 200 m - we walk on a path heading NE and cross a HWW twice (pay attention to the NAVI). After approx. 100 m we meet the HWW for the 3rd time at a crossroads - we turn half-left heading NE and after approx. 130 m we come to another crossroads - here we take our 7th break, 15.1 km, 1,387 m.

11. after approx. 400 m we walk on a natural path at a fork to the half-left (!) and continue upwards on steep serpentines - crossing a HWW after approx. 100 m. Walking upwards, we reach the edge of the forest and after approx. 200 m we cross a HWW on a path and immediately afterwards we are on the Sella Bioichia (8th break, 16.2 km, 1,697 m).

12. we leave the saddle, go steeply down and immediately to the right, east, and after approx. 300 m hike to the left, north (follow the NAVI) on a less pronounced alpine meadow path. Immediately afterwards we cross the Rio Plumbs and meet a HWW, which we follow briefly to the left at the top - at the junction we take path no. 150 to the left, NW.

13. after approx. 1.7 km we reach a HWW on natural paths with good markings - after the crossing we go down with the help of the NAVIS to a clearing with the Collina campsite.

ALTERNATIVE 2: Take the bus (www.saf.ud.it) from Rigolato via Forni Avoltri to Collina or take a taxi from Rigolato via Forni Avoltri to Rif. Tolazzi (saving: approx. 5/5.5 km and approx. 3/3.30 hours).

14. leave path no. 150 at the Collino-Rif. Colazzi connecting road and turn right, NE past tourist facilities, after approx. 1.4 km we reach the HWW, which leads us to the right, E and up (at the material cable car for the Rif. Lambertenghi Romanin) to the Rif. Tolazzi (9th break, 20.6 km, 1,350 m).

ALTERNATIVE 3: Stay on path no. 150 and the Julius-Kugy three-country trail and go down to the Collina-Rif. Tolazzi link road - turn right, NE and go north-west past the campsite up to the Rif. Tolazzi.

15. the HWW leads us in an S-shape up to path no. 143 and the SI, which we follow to the left, N - after approx. 600 m we leave the HWW with path no. 144 (Sentiero dei Cramars, it is a shortcut!) to the right, E/N/NW (pay attention to NAVI). We leave the forest line shortly afterwards, walk steadily uphill on a path and cross the Rio Lanùri after approx. 700 m - we go up to the left and come back to the HWW (10th break, 22.1 km, 1,676 m).

16. path no. 144 takes us up via hairpin bends - after approx. 900 m path no. 145 (Sent. Spinotti) comes from the right - we go straight ahead. After approx. 300 m we reach the Rif. Lambertenghi Romanin, which is no longer farmed - shortly before this we ignore a path to the left. Soon afterwards we turn right at Passo Volaia, east to the memorial site, then return to the path and walk along the south-west side of Lake Volaia. After approx. 300 metres, turn half right at a fork - the 24th stage destination is reached at the Wolayersee hut (24.7 km, 1,967 m).
