Karnische Dolomitenstraße / Carnic Dolomites road

Via the sun terrace of East Tyrol to the German linguistic island Sauris.

Directions

At the start in Lienz, it immediately goes on the Pustertaler Höhenstraße, which has its highest point at 1,800 m. This sun terrace offers a dream landscape with largely rural structure, preserved customs and many cultural sites such as the castle Anras. Culinary tip: Delicious East Tyrolean mountain lamb at the hotel-restaurant Pfleger in Anras. At Abfaltersbach you get back to the B 100 and after Sillian you cross the Austrian state border to continue the tour in South Tyrol. In Innichen turn left to Sexten and over the Kreuzbergpass to Santo Stefano in Cadoretal. After Sappada, you will cross the Sappada Pass at 1,292 meters above sea level and follow the SS 355 to Comegliàns. Passing Val Pesarina and Sella di Razzo (1,760 m), you reach Sáuris, the highest village in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Sáuris is a language island - here one speaks mostly in everyday life "Zahrisch". As a delicacy, the ham from Sauris is well known and should definitely be tasted. Via Ampezzo the route continues to Tolmezzo, there north to Paluzza and continue on the well-developed Plöckenpass (Passo di Monte Croce Carnico) back to Carinthia. Via Kötschach-Mauthen you continue north along the Gailbergsattel to Oberdrauburg. There you turn left and the rest of the way leads through the upper Drau valley back to Lienz in East Tyrol.
