Nassfeld Pass - Kammleiten (1998 m) and/or Gartnerkofel (2195 m)

The Gartnerkofel is an easy-to-climb 2000 metre peak on the Nassfeld and one of the most popular hiking mountains in the Carnic Alps. The Kammleiten is famous for its shell limestone conglomerate and in June the hike leads through a sea of flowers of the unique Wulfenia.
Suggestion
In June you have the opportunity to find the unique Wulfenia, a plant that can only be found here worldwide.
Equipment
Normal hiking equipment with good hiking boots.
Directions
From Villach:
From the A2 south motorway, take the Hermagor exit and continue on the B111 to Hermagor. At the roundabout take the 2nd exit and cross Hermagor in the direction of Kötschach Mauthen. Follow the main road to Tröpolach, turn right at the bridge and drive to Tröpolach and cross it in the direction of Nassfeld. Drive onto Nassfeld and follow the signs from the border crossing to Alpenhof Plattner or park at the border crossing.

Directions

We have reached the starting point either by our own vehicle or on foot from the Nassfeld Pass and hike northwards through the Wulfenia area, cross a ski piste and climb up through loose forest, walking along the ski piste again until we reach its bend.

Kammleiten: (2.5 h)
A few 100 metres further on, path 410 branches off to the left to Kühweger Törl. From here we reach the summit of the Reppwand, also known as Kammleiten, after 20 minutes via a ridge with a wonderful view.

Gartnerkofel: (3.5 h)
If we want to climb the Gartnerkofel, we stay on path 412 above the piste and turn left at the end into a hollow. This leads in a northerly direction to a saddle, where an enchanting view of the Gailtal valley opens up. We keep left and climb in several hairpin bends to the summit of the Gartnerkofel, which is adorned with a particularly beautiful cross. An incredible panoramic view opens up. We are now about 2 hours on the way, back on the same path we need about 1 ½ hours.

Note: For mountaineers in good physical condition, it is possible to combine the two summits on the routes listed.

If you want to make it easier, take the Gartnerkofel chairlift up to approx. 1850 m, climb up a steep gravel slope to the top station of the FIS lift and then continue as above from the end of the piste towards Gartnerkofel.
