Tröpolach - Church of St Leonhard

The church in Schlanitzen is dedicated to St Leonhard, the patron saint of prisoners and miners. It was enlarged by the local population during the Turkish invasions as thanks for the fact that no one was harmed.
Suggestion
In the church you can admire a beautiful Gothic stencilled ceiling.
Equipment
Hiking boots are recommended as the path can be slippery.
Directions
From the A2 south motorway, take the Hermagor exit and continue on the B111 to Hermagor. At the roundabout take the 2nd exit and cross Hermagor in the direction of Kötschach Mauthen. Follow the main road to Tröpolach, turn right at the bridge and drive to Tröpolach to the "Millenium Express" (mountain railway).

Directions

In the village of Tröpolach, we follow the signposts to Schlanitzen and turn off to the foot of the mountain in the south of the village. The steep Way of the Cross leads us in 30 minutes to the lonely church of Schlanitzen, dedicated to St Leonhard. The silence, only a short distance from the tourist destinations, takes hold of us. The church hints at the former mining industry in this area and contains a fantastic Gothic stencilled ceiling.
