Immerse yourself in the World of Mountains & Lakes!

Water sports in the Nassfeld-Pressegger See region

Amidst the World of Mountains & Lakes, holiday guests can go on an adventurous journey along the river Gail. Rare species of plants and endangered animals make this region especially popular with nature lovers. The 122 kilometres long river partially runs through a deep gorge and through flat valley landscapes all the way from Kötschach-Mauthen to Villach. Forests, meadows and the beautiful Alpine ridges of the Gailtal Alps seam its shores. And its end is located in the Alpine city of Villach where it joins the Drau.

From canyoning to river tubing and kayaking, adventurers and water fans have countless of options for water sports on the Gail’s turbulent waters. Enjoy the picturesque setting of Carinthia and the idyllic landscapes of the Nassfeld-Pressegger See region!

Whitewater fun in the region

River tubing on the Gail

Similar to rafting, you can have tons of fun on the white waters of the river – except instead of on a raft, you’ll be on a one-person tube. If you’d like to experience white-water tubing at its best, you should visit the section of the Gail between Tröpolach and Postran on a hot summer day. Experienced guides will help you tackle and master even the most daunting rapids. Fun and safety always take priority, of course!

Off you go – into the cool waters

Kayak adventures in the Nassfeld-Pressegger See region

At Europe’s most pristine valley, Leschtal, kayaking fans will smile from ear to ear and squeal with joy. Especially from May to June and then all summer long, the Gail boasts perfect conditions for kayaking. What better place to give this adventurous sport a try?

Tip for cycling fans: The Gail runs through the most beautiful villages of the World of Mountains and Lakes. And parallel to the river, the popular and easy cycle route R3 lets you ride from Kötschach-Mauthen to Villach. To get back to the Nassfeld-Pressegger See region, you can take the train.

Out on the Gail with paddle and raft

Rafting as a team sport

Big waves and white waters gushing through gorges – and you’re smack in the middle with your raft. Now, it’s all about teamwork! Equipped with a neoprene suit, a helmet and life vest, everyone on the raft needs to contribute their fair share to make sure you all stay afloat in the rough waters. That’s the only thing that stops the boat from turning turtle. The experienced rafting guides will make sure all safety precautions are being adhered to, and the experience is all about fun as a group or as a family.
